How do you stay motivated?

Q1.     What inspired you to get involved with Gateway House, and what keeps you passionate about its mission?

CA: Two things led me to Gateway House. First, my grandma was a resident a few years ago, and we couldn’t have asked for a more compassionate and comforting place for her final months. The staff and volunteers were extraordinary—genuine, caring, and deeply dedicated. They treated my grandma and our family like their own. The home was warm and inviting, the yard was beautiful, and my grandma often called the people there “angels.” We felt truly blessed to have her in such a wonderful place.

Secondly, my background as a nursing home administrator naturally drew me to Gateway House. I strongly believe that everyone deserves dignity, respect, and compassionate care in their final days. It’s an honor to support both residents and their families during such an important time.

Q2.  What has been the most rewarding aspect of working alongside the team at Gateway House?

CA: The most rewarding part is working with people who genuinely care. The team at Gateway House is committed to making residents and their families feel comfortable and supported. It’s a truly special place.

Q3. How do you see Gateway House making a difference in the community over the next few years?

CA: Gateway House serves as an example of how end-of-life care should be. I hope that as time goes on, more people in the community will recognize its impact and be inspired by the care and compassion it provides.

Q4. What advice would you give to someone looking to make a difference in comfort care, end-of-life service?

CA: I feel that providing comfort and companionship at the end of life is one of the most rewarding things a person can do. Of course, there are difficult moments, but being able to offer someone peace, dignity, and comfort during their final days is incredibly meaningful. For those interested in this work, I’d recommend speaking with someone in the field, learning about it, and taking the opportunity to get involved.

Q5. What’s one fun fact about you that people might not know?

CA: I visited Africa the other year and absolutely loved it!

Q6 How do you stay motivated and inspired in your role?

CA: Spending time with the residents keeps me inspired. Whether we’re having a conversation or simply sitting in silence, I always learn something from them. I wish I had more time to dedicate to Gateway House, but the time I do spend there is incredibly meaningful.

Q7. What’s one thing you think every person should know about the work Gateway House is doing?

CA: Gateway House is truly one of a kind. I only wish there were more places like it for those in need of compassionate end-of-life care.
