I had a dream about helping people
Gateway House asked Maribeth why she volunteers, these are her answers.
Q1. What inspired you to get involved with Gateway House, and what keeps you passionate about its mission?
MS: Thirty years ago, I volunteered with Capital District Hospice. It was an honor to help people along at the end of their journey. And last summer, I honestly had a dream about helping people with cancer. I researched Hospice care in the area and was impressed with what I read about Gateway House.
Q2. What has been the most rewarding aspect of working alongside the team at Gateway House?
MS: Knowing that what I'm doing is helping the organization and the community they serve. Currently, I help in an administrative role at Gateway House and at home. I like that opportunities to volunteer extend beyond aiding the residents because there is so much that needs to happen to successfully operate Gateway House.
Q3. How do you see Gateway House making a difference in the community over the next few years?
MS: I'm confident that Gateway House will continue to provide a safe, comfortable environment for folks in need of their services as well as their loved ones.
Q4. What advice would you give to someone looking to make a difference in comfort care, end-of-life service?
MS: If you feel the call, answer it!
Q5. What’s one fun fact about you that people might not know?
MS: In 2014, I stood on the equator in Ecuador!
